MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
The Institute of Textile Technology and the North Carolina State University College of Textiles created the Council for Economically Sustainable Textile and Apparel Businesses (CESTAB) to address sustainability issues in a consistent, knowledgeable, and uniform manner.
Currently, a myriad of technical and business sustainability efforts are underway across the entire textile supply chain. Government and regulatory bodies are also enacting various policies and programs intended to mitigate the impact of producing textile products on workers, consumers, and the environment. Many of these efforts, unfortunately, are not based on good science or business practices. In addition, they are often not coordinated and redundant efforts are expended in development and implementation of sustainability guidelines and policies.
CESTAB will provide resources to textile supply chain participants to reduce redundant activities and provide a more uniform approach for addressing sustainability issues. CESTAB will generate objective and verifiable scientific research addressing the needs of the global textile supply chain. With your support, we can not only minimize the impact of textile supply chain activities on our social and physical environments but also learn to produce textile products more efficiently and cost effectively, preserving our limited resources for future generations and improve the societies in which we work and live.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or need additional information. We look forward to working with you on this exciting endeavor.
W. Gilbert O'Neal, Ph.D., P.E.
